⁷⁸ Jonathan pursued him as far as Azotus, where the armies engaged in battle. ⁷⁹ Apollonius, however, had left a thousand cavalry concealed behind them. ⁸⁰ Jonathan realized that there was an ambush behind him, for his army was surrounded and showered with arrows from morning until evening.
